The Miami Hurricanes secured a significant commitment from a local, ball-hawking safety. Miami Columbus’ Bryce Fitzgerald, a four-star talent according to the 247Sports composite ranking, verbally committed to the local Hurricanes on Saturday night, beating out Florida, Florida State, and LSU.
Fitzgerald revealed the decision via Instagram Live. Fitzgerald is regarded as the No. 12 safety in the class, the No. 21 prospect in Florida, and the No. 130 prospect nationwide, regardless of position. Fitzgerald had an outstanding junior season in his first year at Columbus after moving from Belen Jesuit. He had a whopping ten interceptions (five in the playoffs) to help the Explorers capture their second consecutive state football title. He also contributes significantly off the bench for the Explorers’ three-time state champion basketball team.
The Hurricanes already have 22 commits in their 2025 recruiting class, including 10 blue-chip talents (four- or five-star recruits). Eight of the 22 have committed in the last two months, including Las Vegas Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Seuseu Alofaituli, Bradenton IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix, Jacksonville Mandarin athlete Hylton Stubbs, New Iberia (Louisiana) Westgate cornerback Jaboree Antoine, Phenix City (Alabama) Central wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw, Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Donta Simpson, and Newberry edge rusher Mykah Newton.
Fitzgerald is the first safety in Miami’s 2025 class, but they also have four cornerbacks in Antoine, Miami Central’s Amari Wallace, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna’s Chris Ewald, and Birmingham (Alabama) Parker’s Timothy Merrit.
