According to Richard Cawley, Charlton Athletic are interested in Hungarian midfielder Mihaly Kata, but he is unlikely to join the club this summer.
Charlton Athletic had a successful summer transfer window, with a lot of quality new players joining The Valley.

Greg Docherty, Will Mannion, Alex Mitchell, Josh Edwards, Luke Berry, Matty Godden, and Gassan Ahadme are all newcomers to the South London club. It has given Nathan Jones a squad that appears capable of competing at the top of the standings.

There may also be room for other acquisitions, particularly if any marginal players depart.

Mihaly Kata, a Hungarian midfielder who plays for the capital city side MTK Budapest, has been linked with a move to Charlton Athletic.

However, despite the recent conjecture, new claims about the possibility of a transaction have surfaced.

According to X, renowned reporter Richard Cawley believes that while Kata is a player of interest to the Addicks, a trade this summer is improbable. The 22-year-old has been watched by a number of clubs, including League One, according to reports.

Claims of the Kata interest came from The Express on Wednesday (Transfer news live, 14:53, 14.08.24).

An eye-catching link

League One clubs seldom seek internationally for new players, but they are beginning to cast a broader net in their search for clever additions.

Charlton Athletic appear to be probing the waters with Kata, albeit they have not confirmed their interest at this time.

However, the midfielder would be a standout addition to the Addicks’ squad. Kata has appeared 147 times since joining the MTK academy, scoring four goals and providing four assists from midfield.
His achievements earned him club captaincy, and he has now represented Hungary on three occasions. Kata made his debut last September and was named to the EURO 2024 team.

Midfielder needed?

Charlton Athletic may need a new midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

Scott Fraser’s future is uncertain, but Terry Taylor has expressed an interest as well. If they leave, Jones would be left with only Conor Coventry, captain Docherty, new arrival Berry, and highly rated youngster Karoy Anderson as alternatives in the midfield.

More depth is required in a typical three-man central midfield configuration.

It remains to be seen whether this affects Kata’s stance, but the Addicks may have other choices in mind, given Cawley’s statement that a deal this summer is doubtful.
