Nicknamed Jet, Gbemuotor grew up in Slovenia and spent time on the national circuit for numerous years
Ole Miss women’s basketball continues to prepare for the 2024-25 season, with head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin announcing the signing of Sophia Jite Gbemuotor from Delta State, Nigeria on Tuesday.
“Sophia instantly elevated our roster. “She is a dynamic forward who can score at all three levels,” McPhee-McCuin explained. “We are excited about her joining the team this fall and look forward to seeing her adapt to Ole Miss and the SEC!”
Gbemuotor, nicknamed Jet, grew raised in Slovenia and competed on the national circuit for many years. A rebounding force at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship in Bulgaria. Gbemuotor played in three games and averaged 5.7 rebounds per game on his way to Slovenia, where he won the championship.
Gbemuotor spent time in the Women’s Adriatic League, popularly known as the WABA, with ZKK Cinkarna Celje, where he was voted Youth Player of the Year in 2022 and one of the league’s top five players in 2024. During his time with Cinkarna Celjie, Gbemuotor averaged 9.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals.
Gbemuotor is the fourth freshman to join Ole Miss for the 2024-25 season, following Heloisa Carerra, Fatu Djaló, and Sira Thienou. As eight newcomers return, seven new Rebels join Ole Miss in its quest for a fourth straight NCAA Tournament participation.
