Aston Villa look to have been given a significant boost regarding their rumoured pursuit of a Liverpool player
The 2024/25 Premier League season is now underway. Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans had different luck on the first day of the season; while Villa started well with an amazing away win against West Ham, Wolves were defeated 2-0 by Arsenal. What’s the latest rumour?
Aston Villa appear to have received some good news on the transfer front, as one of their targets has had his asking price reduced; however, the Villans are not the only club that appears to be in the running.
Meanwhile, one of Wolves’ players is believed to be on PSG’s transfer wishlist; while he is not the only player associated with the club, losing him would be a significant blow.
Liverpool ‘lower’ asking price of Aston Villa transfer target Joe Gomez
Aston Villa have recently been linked with a deal for Liverpool academy graduate Joe Gomez, as head coach Unai Emery seeks to improve his team’s defensive options. The Villans have received some positive news on this front: according to CaughtOffside [via TEAMtalk], Liverpool has agreed to ‘reduce’ their asking price for the player.
Liverpool are now seeking for a sum of £30 million to £34 million before allowing Gomez to leave Anfield. In today’s market, this is not extremely pricey, especially for a homegrown talent capable of playing many positions and roles. Liverpool is not done with the summer transfer market; they want to sell players so they can bring in new ones, even if it means selling them at a discount.
While this would offer Villa more room to make a deal, they are not the only club in the running. Newcastle United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Fulham have all expressed interest in Gomez’s signing. Newcastle are presently seeking to recruit Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, but if they are unsuccessful, they may turn their focus to Gomez instead.
